SPONSE Special Session at the 16th WCEE

The SPONSE Association organized a Special Sessions dedicated to the Seismic Performance of Nonstructural Elements (SPONSE Session) at the 16th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering (16WCEE). The session focused on recent developments for the three main categories of non-structural elements:1) Architectural elements; 2) Building Utility Systems; and 3) Building Contents.

The papers presented during the Special Session were mainly related to the following topics: 1) Lessons from earthquakes; 2) Methods of design, evaluation and retrofit; 3) Standards and codes; 4) Experiments; and 5) Analysis and simulation.

Some presentations of the papers presented during the SPONSE Session at th 16th WCEE are available below:

Unstable behavior of suspended ceiling during earthquake

Seismic response evaluation of zonal hanging curtain wall system using hybrid simulation

Seismic restraints for clay brick URM parapets validated using shake-table testing

Stress-strain behavior of plasterboards subjected in tension and compression

Study on seismic behavior of cable rack system for electric wiring having passive control scheme

Shaking table tests on piping systems: Two cases

Study on aseismic performance of integrated ceiling system and anti-fall measures of ceiling

Nonstructural product line certification: The evolution of shake-table testing to satisfy international building code requirements

Generation of uniform hazard floor response spectra for linear MDOF structures

Assessment and modelling of seismic behavior of glazed curtain walls
