Admitted Research Organization Member

This category of membership is for research organizations worldwide that have demonstrated interest and a strong research and/or education program in the seismic performance on non-structural elements.

BENEFITS OF RESEARCH ORGANIZATION MEMBERSHIP

Benefits of research organization membership include the following:

Core Involvement in SPONSE Projects: The member research organization, as the core of support for the organization, will tend to have larger roles in SPONSE projects, though this may vary according to the project and the desirability of collaborating with outside organizations.

Voice on the Board: There are eleven directors, which make up the SPONSE Board of Directors. The board is comprised of eight elected Research Organization Representatives, selected from the pool of representatives of the member research organizations, and three Industrial Representative Directors appointed by the Board. Research Organization Representative board members serve a two-year term on the Board by a vote of the individual members. The representative of a research organization member is named by that organization’s Dean of the School of Engineering or Research Center Director, which helps maintain a strong connection to SPONSE’s institutional base.

Information Dissemination: SPONSE works with each Member Research Organization to prepare information on the organization’s curricular and research qualifications. This information is disseminated by SPONSE via its website and other printed materials such as the SPONSE Annual Workshop Program.

APPLICATION TO BE AN ADMITTED RESEARCH ORGANIZATION MEMBER

Designate a SPONSE Representative and Provide Self-description

Each Research Organization Member has a Representative designated by the Dean of the school of engineering or the Research Centre Director (or the person occupying the most similar positions). The application should include a cover letter or letters signed by these two individuals, along with a description of the educational and research accomplishments and capabilities of the research organization in the seismic performance of non-structural elements.

List of Individual Researchers at Admitted Research Organization (part of research organization application)

The initial Research Organization Member application should include a list of potential applicants whom are interested and qualified in Individual Researcher membership. Applications for Individual Research members at the Research Organization applying for membership should be submitted at the same time as the Research Organization Member application. (Subsequent to the admission of a research organization, additional applications for Individual Research memberships may be made at any time.) Individual Research Member applications should include their contact information and a two-page curriculum vitae (CV) for each candidate. If an individual’s significant accomplishments and interests are not fully reflected in the CV, the letter may include additional brief description.
