The First International Workshop on the Seismic Performance of Non-structural Elements (SPONSE) took place August 29-31, 2014 at the Institute of Engineering Mechanics, China Earthquake Administration in Harbin, China. The objective of the workshop was to promote communication and develop synergies among international researchers on the study of seismic performance of non-structural elements. The workshop was very successful, illuminating a number of recent research initiatives in the field of SPONSE and prompting first discussions of a SPONSE Association.
